Tomi Jazz
My only qualm about this place is that you truly have to plan your evening to wait almost two hours in line to enter, but once you finally reach the door, you are welcomed in by the sweet melodic sounds of jazz, making it totally worth the wait. The food and drinks are also spectacular in terms of price and taste!
My recommendations: Omurice, Cod Roe Spaghetti, Shrimp Croquette, and the Singapore Sling.
Bar Orai
The vibes of this intimate place are unexpected when you're outside of the building—a true hole in the wall! With the velvet flooring, eclectic furniture, and smooth vinyl playing in the background, it's the perfect place to spend your evening with your friends or even on a date!
My recommendations: Plum Yuzu, Mentaiko Mac & Cheese, and the Katsu Sando.
Ihawan
As a Filipino, Kamayan is a beautiful tradition, eating a full of range of different classic Filipino dishes arranged on top of banana leaves. There's a nostalgic feeling to it, but with how affordable Ihawan is, it makes it all the more better.
My recommendations: Kamayan Platter.
Pranakhon
I love Thai food. I can never have enough of Thai food. My one friend from Bangkok says it's the most authentic Thai place you can probably eat in NYC. It is definitely a must try for Thai food lovers!
My recommendations: Crab Fried Rice, Tom Yum Shrimp, Pad Thai, Chicken Mussaman, Thai iced tea.
Golden Diner
This place has a special place in my heart. Arguably hands down has the best pancakes in town, but the burger is also just as fantastic.
My recommendations: Honey Butter Pancakes & Golden Cheeseburger.
Sam Sunny
Great Korean food outside of the busyness of Koreatown. Exceptional service and food too!
My recommendations: Spicy Rice Cakes & Fried Squid, ‘Samgyupsal’ Pork Belly, Kimchi Pork Soup, and Kimchi Fried Rice with Chicken Katsu.
Lê Phin
A gem in the East Village. It's cozy, great place to work, but you'd be lucky to find a seat in their bay window. It's a coveted spot that I still have yet to obtain.
My recommendations: Pandan Matcha Latte.
Katana Kitten
Only one of the best bars in the world, and conveniently located in the West Village. It's definitely busy for a reason, but totally worth visiting at least once. You can't go wrong with any drink or food here.
My recommendations: Melon-Lime Soda and Karaage Calamari.
7th Street Burger
My best friend after a long night or even during the day. It's practically everywhere around NYC, you can't miss it. It's a simple establishment, but the flavors from their menu will always make you come back for more.
My recommendations: Single Cheeseburger, Fries, and The Mexican Coke.
Bonus: Try adding kimchi to it, you'll thank me later.
Montagu's Gusto
I only discovered this recently, but I have sung its praises almost to everyone I know. I've been here countless times since, and if the one person who loves this place is gone, then that means I am dead.
Recommendations: The Godmother.
Bonus: Trust me, add the pesto mayo.
